Ultimately, the quality of life decreases. Loss of independence is also attributable to respiratory failure. The patients low CO2 level is precursor for respiratory failure. The patients CO2 rate is 20 mmol/L, a rate that falls below the normal range of 24-30 mmol/L (MedlinePlus, 2016). Respiratory failure inhibits effective brain functioning, which implies reduced nerve response, including muscle coordination, a condition that is seen in GBS patients. As a primary diagnosis, GBS is linked to smoking. Smoking can be associated with GBS directly or indirectly (through diabetes mellitus, as is exhibited in the patient). Another study directly linked cigarette smoking to poor functional recovery after peripheral nerve reperfusion injury. The study, by Rinker et al. (2011) found that exposure to cigarette smoke significantly reduced the recovery rate for affected individuals, such as GBS patients whose peripheral nerve had been damaged through autoimmune infections. Diagnosis of GBS can be done by spinal tap, electromyography, or nerve conduction tests (Cafasso Reed-Guy, 2015). Neurological conduction tests were done on the patient. The patients muscle strength is rated 3/5, indicating a drop in muscle ability. Cranial nerves II XII are within normal limits, bilateral shoulder flexion, elbow and shoulder flexion is normal but wrist flexion is below NL, at 2/5. This is indicative of slow nerve and muscle response to small electrical pulses (Cafasso Reed-Guy, 2015). Respiratory failure for the patient is linked to his low CO2 rate as revealed by metabolic diagnosis. The diagnosis results in the nervous system being affected. The syndrome can temporarily weaken the bodys ability to control blood pressure. Consequently, the patient can experience dangerously low blood pressure whe n they attempt to stand up after sitting or lying down (Drugs, 2016). As the syndrome results in the immune system attacking the peripheral nervous system, the nerves connecting the brain to the rest of the body are affected thus the transmission of signals to the muscles slows down. Diversity has returned to  Wayne State  In an effort to boost their minority student numbers, Detroits Wayne State University of Medicine increased their minority stats by a whopping 643% for the coming year. In the 2015-2016 entering class, there are five black students, two Hispanic students, and no Native Americans; in next years class, however, the expected breakdown is 31 black students, 18 Hispanic students, and three Native Americans. (The admissions process for next year is still not complete, so those numbers may increase.) This drop in diversity has occurred only in the last 10 years – from 1990 to 2006, Wayne State admitted about 35 African-American students (13% of the class) per year. In a Crains Detroit article, Dean Jack Sobel, M.D. points to new leadership, a completely new holistic admissions process, [and] very active community outreach, campaigning and recruitment, as well as a new Diversity Advisory Council of the Dean, as ways in which the school is addressing the problem. Wayne State was placed on accreditation probation last June due to 12 infractions – lack of diversity in recruiting was just one of these violations. Social behavior is any behavior that has been, or is being, conditions to any degree by interaction with others. When you read this definition you begin to understand the complexity of sociology. We deal with sociology every day of our lives, since we are always doing or interacting with someone or something. There are six essential categories of behavior that are used to study and understand social behavior. They are perception, emotions, thought and speech, physical motion, posturing and costuming. In today's world there are many social issues or rules that everyone follows or understands. The most important principle of social constraint is self perception. These are the prescriptions of behavior - when, where, and how to feel and act. Another way to put it is a system of rules we all follow in society. We depend on society to tell us who we are, what is importa nt, and what we should do about it. These are seen as our survival guide, and well-being of every member of the group. We learn each day what is accepted socially. What the social rules are and how they pertain to us as an individual. This is how we respond not to the environment or situation we are in, but how we were learned or trained by society to respond. Society being a set of beliefs on how to go about living. III) I deal with social issues everyday, from the clothes I choose to wear, to the car I am going to drive, to what career I will choose. I don't want to been seen in society as someone different, so I follow other leads in my daily decision, making sure what I choose is socially correct in my environment. This in part makes us feel secure, because if everyone else in society does it, then it is ok for us to do the same. What I perceive as right and wrong though is not always the way others will see it too. There are many structures of sociology such as age, sex, race and religion. I make many decisions in the course of living every day, a nd I make these decisions within the context of society; our family, school, career and the larger world. Each day the social world guides my life choices. I also deal with society rules because of my gender. Being a women I am seen by many as only a child bearer, or someone who does not, or can not have a career, and sometime seen as incompetent. I need to prove to myself and others by trying to change how societies look at women by succeeding in where society says I can not succeed. It was not an unavoidable conflict of two opposing sides; rather, it was the result of extremism and failures of leadership on both sides of the conflict. The conflict was made up of the pro-slavery southerners and the anti-slavery northerners. Both sides felt very strongly about their position, and refused to see the opposite point. Failure of leadership that led to the Civil War was the passing of the personal liberty laws, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and popular sovereignty by congress, while extremism that led to the Civil War included the Fugitive Slave law, and Harpers Ferry. Divisions caused by the slavery issue cut deep into America. Entire regions bitterly hated each other. Harriet Beecher Stowes abolitionist book Uncle Toms Cabin only furthered the hatred between the North and the South by adding an emotional aspect to the immorality of slavery (Document C). The rift even split political parties such as the Whigs. One half of the Whigs were Cotton Whigs, who believed that slavery was an essential part of the economy, and that slavery is good. The Conscience Whigs believed that slavery was wrong and should be ended. The political party of the Whigs soon dissolved, and disappeared from Congress (Document E). Abraham Lincoln may have thought of this political party when he said, A house divided against itself cannot stand.(Document F) Lincoln was of course referring to the civil war he saw looming ahead. People on both sides of the conflict who passed the personal liberty laws, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and popular sovereignty showed lack of leadership.
